SpinFS includes integration tools that enable you to manage your SpinServer system by using SpinManager in HP OpenView. After integration, HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) discovers SpinServers in your network, receives event notifications, and displays event messages.
Using the SpinManager integration with HP OpenView NNM is supported on the following platforms:
Windows NT
Windows 2000
Solaris
HP-UX
Note: The integration with SpinManager does not work if HP OpenView NNM was not properly installed on your machine before the integration process began.
To install HP OpenView support for SpinManager on a Windows machine, perform the following steps:
Insert the SpinFS software CD into the CD drive.
From the software CD, run the \Spinnaker\windows\HP\SpinHPOVSetup.exe program. The installation wizard provides you with the following steps to complete the integration of SpinManager with HP OpenView.
After running SpinHPOVSetup, the Welcome screen is displayed. Click Next.
Read the license agreement and select I accept the terms in the license agreement. Click Next.
In the Destination Folder screen, accept the installation folder indicated and click Next, or click Change to select a different installation folder.
If you need to install to a different folder, type the path for that folder in the Folder name field and click OK.
The Ready to Install the Program screen is displayed. Click Install to begin the installation process.
After the installation process is completed, the InstallShield Wizard Completed screen is displayed. Click Finish.
To install SpinServer support for the HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) onto a Solaris or HP-UX system, perform the following steps:
Close all NNM sessions on the machine on which HP OpenView is installed. You do not need to stop the NNM server processes.
Insert the software CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of the machine on which HP OpenView is installed. If necessary, mount the CD-ROM by using standard operating-system commands.
Source the ov.envvars.sh script from the HP OpenView installation's bin directory. This script sets environment variables that are required for the installation of SpinServer support.
$ $OV_BIN/ov.envvars.sh
Verify that the HP OpenView installation's bin directory is in your path.
Change to the /cdrom/Spinnaker/unix/HP/ directory:
$ cd /cdrom/Spinnaker/unix/HP
Run the install.sh script:
$ ./install.sh
When the installation completes, the following message is displayed on the console:
Spinnaker Server successfully installed in HP OpenView Network Node Manager.
To create SpinServer objects in Network Node Manager (NNM), perform the following steps.
After you have completed the installation of SpinManager in HP OpenView, launch OpenView.
From the Edit menu, select Add Object. The Add Object Palette opens.
Scroll through the Symbol Classes choices and select the Server object.
Scroll through the Symbol Subclasses for Class Server choices and drag the Spinnaker object to the network map. The Add Object dialog box opens.
In the Label field, enter the name of the SpinServer. The SpinServer name must be the DNS name of the SpinServer management port.
Click OK. The SpinServer object is created and is displayed on the network map.
To use SpinManager to manage the SpinServer, right-click the SpinServer object and select Launch SpinManager.
SpinManager opens in your browser and the SpinServer Login screen is displayed.
